| The DemoTools population projections are available in three versions: | ||||||||
| Standard Version | ||||||||
| The
Standard Version includes all the basic features to run customized
population projections. It includes default base data and input parameter
files for 188 countries and 30 regions worldwide. With these default files
you can immediately run cohort-component projections that are identical (or almost
identical) to the 1998 United Nations World Population Prospects. However,
you can not only replicate these projections - you can also modify
all major projection parameters and input data and run customized
projections for these countries and regions. But you can not
save (and reload) these modified input files. However, in all three
versions of the software you can copy & paste the on-screen output tables and
charts into your own publication documents, such as a MS-PowerPoint
presentation. The Standard Version is primarily intended for students and as a quick reference tool. |
||||||||
| Professional Version | ||||||||
| In
addition to all the features of the Standard Version you can specify, save
and re-load custom input files with the Professional Version. For
instance, you can load the default input and parameter files for a
particular country, modify the parameters, and save it for later use. You can also import base data and projection parameters, which
are not related to any of the default data sets. Moreover, the
Professional Version provides additional output as compared to the
Basic Version, such as detailed tables of birth
and deaths, crude birth rates and crude death rates for each projection
period. The Professional Version was primarily designed for researchers, who want to import their own data, run customized projections and save or reload these customized input files. |
||||||||
| Advanced Version | ||||||||
| In
addition to all the features of the Professional Version you have many
additional options to select and modify the projection output with the
Advanced Version. For instance, in the advanced version you can also
print the (abbreviated) life tables that are internally used for the
projections. Moreover, you can modify additional input parameters and
change colors in the on-screen charts (which is important for preparing
PowerPoint presentations of the output). However, the main feature of the Advanced Version is a collection of 10 demographic lectures, which are connected
to corresponding input data-sets. You can use these data to replicate
projection experiments, which are described in the lectures. The Advanced Version is the most flexible and powerful implementation of the DemoTools population projections. It is primarily targeted to educators, who want to use the software in the classroom. |
