The program crashes - what might be wrong? A checklist.

With the latest internal revision (Rev. 1.15) we do not have any reports of program crashes from our customers.
However, from experience we know, that customers might have certain hardware and software environments, which would be a problem. If you experience a problem with the DemoTools software, please go through the following checklist before you send a error report:

  1. Do you have full access permission for the PC?
If you log-in to a PC, which is connected to an internal network, you might not have complete read and write permission for your hard disk. System administrators typically implement these restrictions to prevent users from installing (possible virus-infected) programs on their networked computer. If you log-in on such a PC, you might not be able to use the DemoTools software, when it was installed by the system administrator under his/her log-in name. The system administrator might have read and write permission, while you might not.
Please make sure, that the DemoTools software is installed on your local hard disk under the same user name, which you use when you run the program. For instance, if you install the DemoTools software as "Administrator" you should also log-in as "Administrator" to use the software.

  2. Did you change the properties of the installed files?
Sometimes it happens that system administrators change the property of installed program files to "read only". This should prevent users from accidentally erasing or changing vital program files. However, this is not allowed with the DemoTools files! All files (program files plus data), which the DemoTools setup program puts on your hard disk, must have full read-and-write permission!
Please check, that all files in the DemoTools directories do have full read-and-write permission by right-clicking on the file names and selecting "Properties" from the context menu.

  3. Does your PC have enough memory?
The DemoTools software needs at least 64 MB of RAM.
  4. Did you use the setup program for installing the software?
Sometimes users try to simply copy an application from one computer to another - for instance they try to copy all the files from their office PC to their home PC.
If you do this with the DemoTools application the software will not work correctly. You must use the setup program on the CD-ROM to install the software on a PC.
Please also remember, that you must have a multi-user license, when you want to run the DemoTools software on more than one PC.

  5. Is the default decimal symbol set to "." (dot)?
The DemoTools software requires that the default decimal symbol is set to "." (dot). In non-English versions of MS-Windows, the default decimal symbol can be set to some other character, such as a "," (comma) in the German version of the operating system. If this is the case, you must change the decimal symbol to "." (dot). You can easily do this in the Control Panel (Go to: Start / Settings / Control Panel / Regional Options / Locale). Don't forget to switch it back, when you are ready with DemoTools.
