We
have decided to base the development of the DemoTools software on certain
design principles. One of these decisions was to avoid a confusing clutter
of overlapping and scrolling windows on the monitor screen. We try to
organize the interface of our applications in such a way, that whatever
interaction is necessary at one particular step in a procedure is
available on one single screen - without the necessity of scrolling
or switching between (overlapping) sub-windows.
For instance, in Tool #1 (population projections) we want the output
screens to show the results of three projections simultaneously - three
(moving) population pyramids, three summary tables, three
pie-charts for the age groups. This should make it easy for the user to
immediately compare the results of projection variants (or
projections for different countries). However, this requires sufficient
screen space - in other words: a higher screen resolution.
