In 1950, roughly 2 percent of China's
population was 70 years of age or older; by 2050 this percentage
will have increased to 17%. One-sixth of the China's population will
be 70 years of age or older. |

In Europe, 5 percent of the population in
1950 was 70 years of age or older; in 2050 the 70+ population will
be 21%. One-fifths of the Europe's population will be 70 years or
older. |

Population ageing, in the United States
of America is significantly slower than in Europe or in China:
The percentage of population age 70 or older will increase from 5
percent in 1950 to about 16% in 2050. |

India's population ageing is, by far,
the slowest of this groups: The percentage of population age 70 or
above has only increased from 2 to 3 percent between 1950 and 2010.
It will further increase to "only" 9% by 2050. |
