Natural disasters, such as flooding and drought, are very unevenly distributed in China. This figure gives the percentages of cultivated land affected by flooding and drought in 2001. At least during this year, flooding (orange bars) affected much smaller areas of cultivated land than drought (red bars). In 2001, cultivated areas in Jilin, Shanxi, and Hubei were most seriously hit by drought. Please note that the extent of flooding and drought can vary greatly between years.
