| With increasing life expectancy the number of people age 70 and older will increase significantly in the future. Both India and China have already a larger population age 70 and older than the United States of America. |
| By 2020 China's 70+ population will surpass the elderly population of all European countries combined and by 2050 China will have almost twice as many people age 70 and older than all of Europe. It will also have twice as many people age 70 and older as India. |
| The number of people age 70 and above in the rest of the world is already higher than in Europe, China, India or the United States of America. By the middle of the 21st century these countries will have 450 million people age 70 and older, while all countries of Europe or India will have less than 150 million. |
