DemoGraphics '96 is the most recent version of the DemoGraphics software,
which was originally developed by Gerhard K. Heilig at the International Institute for
Applied Systems Analysis in Laxenburg, Austria. The package was updated to include data
from the 1996 edition of the United Nations World Population Prospects, which are
regularly published by the United Nations Population Division in New York. We also have
upgraded the core software to speed up the program and make it compatible with MS-Windows
NT (in addition to MS-Windows '95).
DemoGraphics '96 was
designed as a tool for population education - making it easy to present demographic trends
for all countries and major regions worldwide in animated charts and maps. Probably the
most spectacular charts are moving
age pyramids, which help to
explain population momentum to a wide audience of students and professionals. |

However, there are numerous other charts and maps, which help to compare
and rank demographic indicators.
The software also includes
more analytical data displays, such as the dynamic scattergrams which can show the relationship between two indicators over time
- for instance, the correlation between Infant Mortality and Total Fertility Rates in
selected countries between 1950 and 1995.
DemoGraphics '96 was developed by Gerhard K. Heilig for the United Nations Population Fund
(UNFPA) in association with the Netherlands Interdisciplinary Demographic Institute
(NIDI).
