Setup Problems (CD-ROM)

I get the message "X:\is not accessable" (X = CD-ROM drive)
Please try again!
Many new high-speed CD-ROM drives do not run continuously, but start spinning the CD only when requested. After you put the Demo-Graphics & Tables '96 CD-ROM in your drive it can take quite some time before your CD-drive is up to speed. Sometimes it is necessary to try accessing the drive several times, before it is ready to read a CD. Just click on the "Try again" button in the upcoming error box or close and open "My Computer" several times.

This problem is typical, if you can "see" the CD-ROM when you open "My Computer", but cannot start it. You would see just the CD-ROM icon with the drive letter below, such as:

(X:) {where X is the drive letter of your CD-ROM}

If you only see the icon with this drive letter below, please close and open "My Computer" several times until you can see the following information next to the CD-ROM icon:

Untitled (X:)     or
Dgdt96 (X:)   {where X is the drive letter of your CD-ROM}

This indicates that your CD-drive has recognized the Demo-Graphics & Tables '96 CD-ROM. You should now be able to open it by double-clicking on the icon.

My PC definitely cannot read the CD-ROM
Sorry! We know about this problem.
There is a very small number of CD-ROM readers, which simply do not recognize (certain brands of ?) custom-burned CDs. This only happens with CDs that are produced (as in our case) in one of the new CD-ROM writers - there is no problem with traditional mass-printed CDs. Unfortunately, we cannot print the CDs, because we want to be flexible for internal upgrades and also have a relatively small number of users (not more than maybe 1000), so that printing would be too expensive.

Solution
: In these rare cases when the CD definitely cannot be read we provide the following solution: We will replace the CD-ROM with a set of diskettes at no cost for you.
